Promethean Particles is a spin-out company from The University of Nottingham based on the research of Professor Ed Lester. Promethean Particles began trading in February 2008 based at Biocity Nottingham with the original investment coming from the Lachesis Fund and Catapult Venture Managers. Since then Promethean has grown and after raising a second round of investment in 2012, moved into new, larger premises at the Nottingham Science Park.

Barry Stickings CBE – Chairman
Barry joined BASF in 1971 in Toronto to start a 33-year career with The Chemical Company. Following assignments in Germany and Canada, he transferred to BASF headquarters in Ludwigshafen in 1985 as Business Director, Plasticizers and was appointed Group Vice President, Industrial Chemicals for BASF Corporation in the United States in 1988. He returned to the UK in 1993 as Managing Director, BASF plc and was appointed Chairman in 2001. Additionally as President, Region Europe, he was responsible for market efficiency and for the BASF business centres across Europe. Despite retiring from BASF at the end of 2004, he remains active in the Chemical Industries Association (Council Member since 1993, Chair Responsible Care Board 1995-1999, President 1999-2001), was Deputy Chairman of the Chemicals Innovation and Growth Team set up by the UK Government in 2002 and Chairman of the UK Chemistry Leadership Council 2003-2006.
Professor Ed Lester – Technical Director
Ed began his career as a marine chemist before moving into chemical engineering at The University of Nottingham where he is now a Professor in Chemical Technologies.He has been working at the chemistry/chemical engineering interface for the last 12 years.
Ed is also a Council member and Treasurer for the International Solvothermal and Hydorthermal Association and organised the 1st International Solvothermal and Hydrothermal Association conference, which was held in Nottingham in September in 2008.
Dr Pete Gooden – Technical Manager
Pete has several years experience working with high pressure flow reactors on commercially-targeted projects. A specialist in the field of supercritical fluid chemistry, Pete focuses on working with the customer to understand their needs and is involved in tailoring and delivering nanomaterial solutions from conception and development to manufacture.
